German machine manufacturers saw orders in the domestic and export markets rise sharply in August.
Orders rose by 7 percent year on year in the month in seasonally adjusted figures released by the Mechanical Engineering Industry Association VDMA on Thursday.
Orders to German customers rose by 8 percent over the year, while export orders rose by 6 percent, the VDMA said.
"This can be attributed to demand from partner countries in Europe, which stagnated in August," VDMA chief economist Ralph Wiechers said.
Orders from non-European Union countries rose by 8 percent over the same period.
German machinery manufacturers have benefited for a long time from the strong global economy, but the industry's success has led to conflict with trading partners on the international market.
The VDMA has forecast the industry to grow by 5 percent in 2018, but to slow to just 2 percent in real terms in 2019.
As long as uncertainty remains over Britain's looming exit from the EU and international trade conflicts, risks for the German machine-manufacturing industry will rise, the VDMA said.
