CSCEC signs EPC contract for phase II of CBD project in Egypt’s new administrative capital -- China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) announced that it signed the EPC contract for the second phase of the CBD project in Egypt’s new administrative capital with Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation on Sept. 2.According to CSCEC, the second phase of the project covers a floor area of 1.8 million square meters and has 20 commercial and residential buildings, and it is next to the first phase of the CBD project, which is still under construction.Upon completion, the CBD will become a core area with the most commercial value and the best urban functions in the new administrative capital.
New projects of key energy, chemical base launched in Ningxia -- A series of new projects have been launched in a key national development zone in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, local authorities said on Sept. 3.The administration committee of Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base said that a total of 21 projects, with an investment of 16 billion yuan (2.3 billion U.S. dollars), had started by August 31.The new projects cover various fields including fine chemicals, new materials, comprehensive utilization of resources, and manufacturing-related services.
Chinese company Yuhuang's methanol project in southern U.S. enters key phase -- Yuhuang's methanol project, the largest green field investment in methanol by a Chinese company in southern U.S. state of Louisiana, has made breakthrough in its construction, according to Chinese Yuhuang Chemical Industries Inc. (YCI) on Aug. 31."The installation of our first major equipment on foundation this week signified our project has entered above-ground construction phase, a new breakthrough in building our facility here," Charlie Yao, CEO of YCI Methanol One, told Xinhua.YCI, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shandong Yuhuang Chemical Company, is constructing a 1.85-billion-dollar methanol production facility in St. James Parish, Louisiana.The methanol production facility began in January 2017, while commercial production of methanol is expected to begin in mid-2020.
China-Maldives Friendship Bridge opens to traffic -- The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, the first cross-sea bridge in the Maldives, opened to traffic on the evening Aug.30. Speaking at the occasion, Maldivian President Yameen said the bridge is an embodiment of the long relations between the Maldives and China.Connecting capital Male and neighboring Hulhule island where the Maldives' main international airport is located, the two-km bridge makes it possible for locals and tourists to transfer between the two islands on land within five minutes.
Chinese refinery company Hengyuan to invest on clean air regulation project in Malaysia -- China's Hengyuan Refining Company (HRC) said on Sept. 5 that it would invest on a clean air regulation project (CAR) within its refining complex in Port Dickson. The Chinese entity told Malaysian stock exchange that it had approved the investment, using a mix of cash flow generated from operations and a further draw down from an existing term loan. The project is undertaken to ensure that the refinery's emissions comply with the CAR requirements mandated by the Malaysian regulatory authorities, it said. It will be done via the installation of air pollution control systems at the Long Residue Catalytic Cracking Unit and Plat-2, and an emission monitoring system on HRC's flue gas stacks.
Malaysia, Singapore sign agreement to defer construction of high speed rail to 2020 -- The government of Malaysia and Singapore signed an agreement on Sept. 5 to defer the construction of the high speed rail (HSR) project linking the two countries by two years till 2020. At Malaysia's request and in the spirit of bilateral cooperation, Singapore has agreed to suspend the construction of the HSR project for a period up to May 31, 2020, according to the joint statement issued by the two countries. The agreement was the result of weeks of "intense negotiations," said Malaysia's Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, adding that "we have come to an agreement and we met all the concerns from Singapore and Malaysia."
China, Laos ink MoU over railway vocational technical college feasibility study -- The signing ceremony of an MoU on feasibility study on the Chinese government's assistance to the Lao railway vocational technical college project was held in Lao capital Vientiane on Sept. 4. The project plans to help Laos build a full-time higher vocational technical college in Vientiane to train professional railway talents for Laos. The China-Laos railway, a key interconnectivity project, started construction in 2016. Since then, the building of tunnels, bridges, roadbeds and other sections has progressed smoothly along the route.
China consortium wins contract for Egypt coal power plant -- A Chinese consortium formed by two power generation equipment makers has officially won the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for a coal-fired power plant in Egypt.Dongfang Electric Corp. and Shanghai Electric Group signed the EPC contracting deal with the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy on Aug.2 in Beijing.The two will provide six ultra-supercritical, near-zero polluting coal-fired power generating units with a total generating capacity of 6.6 GW for the Hamrawein power plant.The power plant, over 800 km from Cairo, Egypt's capital, is expected to be built in six years to become Africa's largest clean-coal power plant.
CGN unit to boost mine output -- Tthe uranium subsidiary of China General Nuclear Power Corp, the country's largest nuclear operator, has said the company's Husab Uranium Mine located in Namibia will continue to be optimized this year.The company said it will ramp up its throughput to ensure the mine reaches its design capacity this year.The Namibian Husab Uranium Mine, the third-largest uranium mine in the world and China's largest investment project in Africa, has been constantly increasing output since it came online in late 2016.
