China's infrastructure giant wins bid on RMB6.47 bln coal rail project -- China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), one of China's leading construction and engineering companies, announced on Aug. 13 that its subsidiary had won a coal rail contract worth 6.47 billion yuan.The contract value is projected to account for 0.95 percent of CRCC's total operating income in 2017. The contract for the communications, signals, power supply and electrification systems for the Inner Mongolia-Jiangxi Railway was put out for tender in June. The railway, China's longest rail line for coal transport, starts from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in western China, runs through central China, and ends in Jiangxi Province in eastern China. It is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

Depot of Kuala Lumpur metro line 2 project started by Chinese contractor -- The Sungai Buloh depot of the line 2 of Kuala Lumpur metro in Malaysia, which was undertaken by China Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., has been recently started. Line 2 of Kuala Lumpur metro is 52.2 kilometers long. It has a standard gauge and is powered by a 750 volt conductor rail. There are 37 stations on the line, including 11 underground stations, 26 elevated stations and two depots near Sungai Buloh Station and Serdang Station. The main construction contents include 8.2 kilometers of ballasted track, 23 sets of turnout, 19,000 cubic meters of ballasts, 3.2 kilometers of cables, 6.8 km of cable troughs and 8.3 kilometers of conductive conductor rail.

Construction of Uganda's largest power plant enters final phase -- Construction of Uganda's largest hydropower plant has entered its final phase, with installation works taking over physical building. Working in tunnels below River Nile in the northern Ugandan district of Kiryandongo, Chinese engineers and their Ugandan counterparts carefully install machinery for the 600 MW plant. They work in day and night shifts to ensure that the 1.688 billion U.S. dollar Karuma Hydro Power Plant is completed within the next year. "More than 85 percent of the work is complete. It's not an easy job because it involves designing the structure, installation and connecting cables," Li Huiting, the deputy project manager, told Xinhua.

Mega water, sewerage project in northwestern Sri Lanka opens to benefit over 70,000 people -- Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Aug. 13 inaugurated the Greater Kurunegala Water Supply and Sewerage Project in northwestern Sri Lanka which will solve the drinking and sanitation problem for thousands of people in the district. This project will provide clean water for households, government and private sector offices, schools, hospitals, tourist hotels, a daily floating population of over 70,000. It will also provide disposal of wastewater for 3,500 domestic and commercial institutions through its well-organized sewerage network.

Xiaomi join hands with Lingang Group to build ecological chain industrial park -- Chinese tech firm Xiaomi signed a cooperative agreement with Shanghai Lingang Songjiang Hi-Tech City on August 13 on building a 100,000 square meter Xiaomi ecological chain industrial park in the high-tech city. The industrial park will be jointly established by Xiaomi, the government of Shanghai's Songjiang District and Shanghai Lingang Group. According to the agreement, the three parties will work together to build the headquarters of Xiaomi ecological chain in eastern China as a carrier for cultivating enterprises and attract about 50 to 100 companies on the Xiaomi ecological chain to settle in the park.

Chinese firms sign general contract for power transmission and transformation project in Laos -- Hubei Hongyuan Power Engineering Co., Ltd. of PowerChina and Hebei Installation Engineering Co., Ltd. recently signed the general contract for construction and installation of the 115kV power transmission and distribution line expansion and renovation project in Laos. The general contractor of the project is Hebei Installation Engineering, and the owner is Lao state power company, EDL. The project is located in the province of Sainyabuli and Vientiane of Laos. The project includes construction of two 115kV substations, expansion of two 115kV substations and construction of 127 km 115 kV double circuit line. The construction period of the project is from September 2018 to December 2019.

Ukraine plans major railway project under Belt and Road Initiative -- Ukraine on Aug. 15 has unveiled a concept of a new railway project "China-Ukraine-EU (European Union)," which is aimed at unlocking Ukraine's transit potential under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.

The project, which envisages a construction of a 1,100-km-long high-speed railway line in Ukraine, was presented during a roundtable in Kiev entitled "High-speed railway and transit potential under the Belt and Road Initiative." Serhii Rudkovskyi, the chairman of the board of the "High-speed Rail Lines" association, said that the project would help Ukraine to become an important transit link on the modern Silk Road by providing favorable conditions for movement of goods between China and the EU.

Chinese company signs MOU with Laos over power grid development -- China Southern Power Grid (CSG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) over feasibility study on cooperatively developing and building Laos' national power grid in the Lao capital Vientiane. According to the MOU, CSG will cooperate with the Lao side, with combined advantages and mutual benefits, to build a national integrated backbone power grid as to improve power transmission capacity and electricity supply reliability in Laos, and support the country's sustainable socio-economic development. At the same time, the CSG also donated 1.2 billion kip (some 142,000 U.S. dollars) to the Lao government at the singing ceremony, to help the flood-hit victims in southern Laos to rebuild their homes.
