BANGKOK, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A sixth Thai-Lao friendship bridge will be built to link lower northeastern Thailand with southern Laos.
During Tuesday's roving cabinet meeting in Ubon Ratchathani province, the Thai government approved the sixth Thai-Lao friendship bridge project, which will cost about 4.3 billion baht (about 126.5 million U.S. dollars) in construction, said Deputy Government Spokesman Natthaporn Jatusripitak after the meeting.
The friendship bridge is designed to link Natarn district of Ubon Ratchathani in lower northeastern Thailand with Lakhonepheng district of Salavan province in southern Laos, he said.
An environmental impact assessment on the one-kilometer-long bridge is currently conducted and scheduled to be finished within this year, he said.
