China, Philippines unveil China-funded bridges in Manila -- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on July 17 witnessed the lowering of a time capsule, signaling the start of construction of two China-funded bridges across the Pasig River in the Philippine capital Manila. China has offered to build the 734-meter long Binondo-Intramuros Bridge in Manila City and the 506-meter long Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge in Makati City that will help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila. "These bridges will not only improve the capacity and the efficiency of Metro Manila's transportation corridor by providing additional bridges and routes across Pasig River but will also enhance the resilience of our road network against natural disasters," Duterte said in a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony in Manila City.

China approves 102 projects worth 39 bln USD in H1 -- China's economic planning agency approved 102 fixed-asset investment (FAI) projects with a combined investment totaling 260.3 billion yuan (about 39 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of 2018. The projects were mainly in high-tech, social service programs and water conservation industries, Yan Pengcheng, spokesperson for the National Development and Reform Commission, told a press briefing on July 17. Data also showed China's FAI grew 6 percent year on year in the first half of this year, 1.5 percentage points lower than that of the first three months.

Chinese company wins bid for RMB3.8 bln oil pipeline project in Saudi Arabia -- China Petroleum Engineering Corporation (600339.SH) recently announced that its subsidiary China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co., Ltd. has received a letter of intent from Saudi Arabian Oil Company for the awarding of the pipeline project for compressor stations of Haradh and north Hawiyah. According to the announcement, the project includes upgrading of 476 single wells of Harald oilfield, construction of 182 new pipes (8 inches to 36 inches) with a total length of 844 kilometers, construction of new and upgrading 190 primary manifolds stations and other facilities. The project is a procurement construction (PC) contract with a planned work duration of 38 months and an amount of 2,158 million Saudi riyal (about 3.8 billion yuan).

Jiangxi releases key projects list for participating in Belt and Road construction -- East China's Jiangxi Province had released a list of key projects to participate in the construction of Belt and Road in 2008. The list included 64 items with a total amount of 19.5 billion U.S. dollars. The move aims to actively encourage enterprises in Jiangxi Province to participate in the construction of Belt and Road, and promote the construction of external cooperation projects. The project in Jiangxi Province includes 29 infrastructure construction projects including the Nanchang-Ganzhou Railway Construction Project, and 15 industrial investment projects, including the cooperation project with the Ukrainian helicopter company DB Aerocopter, and 7 overseas cooperative park projects such as Jiangxi (Malaysia) Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Industrial Park, and 13 cultural exchange and cooperation projects.

CCCC signs contract for Serbian section of Belgrade-Budapest railway -- China Communications Construction Co., Ltd. (CCCC) recently signed the contract for the Novi Sad-Subotica-Kelebia (border) section in Serbia of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, during the Seventh Leaders' Meeting of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC), according to yidaiyilu.gov.cn. The Belgrade-Budapest railway is the flagship project of China-CEEC cooperation and is also a landmark project for the construction of the Belt and Road between China and Europe. The section of the signed contract is 107 kilometers long and will be constructed by CCCC and China Railway International Group.

Sinosteel join hands with Italian company to build solar power plant in Iran -- Sinosteel Corporation will join hands with an Italian company  Denikon to construct a solar power station in the city of Yazd, central Iran, IRNA reported. A memorandum of understanding was recently signed by Denikon and Sionsteel in the historic city of Yazd. The MoU includes constructing a 500 to 1,000 MW solar power plant with 20,000 solar panels of 5 MW and a solar panel factory.

1st land-based China-Pakistan cross-border optical fiber inaugurated -- The first ever land-based cross border optical fiber project between China and Pakistan was inaugurated July 13, a significant digital achievement under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The project, signed in April 2007 between Pakistan's Special Communication Organization and China Telecom, was approved in 2010. The 820-km underground cable starts from Rawalpindi and ends at Khunjerab bordering China and connects with optical fiber in the Chinese side.

Tenom railway maintenance project undertaken by Chinese firm started in Malaysia -- China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Co., Ltd. under China State Construction Engineering Corp. (CSCEC) recently started the Tenom railway maintenance project in Malaysia. The project is located in Sabah state of Malaysia, starting from Halogilat to Tenom with a length of 26.9 kilometers. The construction contents include railway ballast paving, sleeper and rail replacement, curve and culvert reconstruction. The contract period is 12 months.

China's longest tunnel built under red clay soil opens up -- A railway tunnel passing under a large area of red clay soil opened on July 11, according to China Railway Tunnel Group. Qingyang railway tunnel is a part of Yinxi rail line, linking Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province. About 90 percent of the 14-km tunnel passes under red clay soil. Construction of tunnels under red clay is very challenging due to its instability. This is the first and longest railway tunnel built under red clay soil in China, said China Railway Tunnel Group.
