BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Minhang District is planning to build an international electronic sports industrial park in its southern Hongqiao area in cooperation with Guangdong-based Super Generation Investment and Tencent Interactive Entertainment, the district government announced yesterday.

The park, to be known as Shanghai International New Cultural and Creative E-sports Center, is scheduled to begin use by 2020. It has been described as China’s first “all-in-one professional e-sports industrial park.”

It will have eight zones covering functions such as e-sports games, game research and development, new media and education as well as animation, film and television.

The park will be designed to receive some 10,000 visitors per day and house 100 domestic and foreign e-sports companies. A world-class professional e-sports arena will be built to host 6,000 spectators, along with a performing hall to accommodate 1,200 guests.

“The construction of the industrial park, including the establishment of the venues, facilities for e-sports teams and related services, will have three stages. The first will be the e-sports arena,” said Wu Bin, deputy head of Minhang District. “The park will be a leading power in the nation’s e-sports industry and support local cultural and creative development.”

According to Wu, an artificial intelligence “future town” will also be established in western Minhang’s Maqiao Town, where concepts like robot restaurants, robot clinics and robot schools will become reality.

Through long-standing ties between Taiwan and Minhang, a Taiwan cultural and creative belt will further be established in Xinzhuang and Qibao towns.

By 2020, Minhang District is expected to have eight city-level cultural and creative parks and 15 district-level ones, as well as more than 500 cultural and creative companies.
