Philippine expects 10 major infrastructure projects to commence within 2018 -- Philippine Department of Finance (DOF) recently said that construction of 10 major infrastructure projects with a total cost of 59.76 billion peso are expected to commence construction this year. These ten projects are included among the 75 infrastructure projects under the ambitious infrastructure program of the Duterte administration. With a total cost of 35.26 billion peso, the project will be financed through a loan from China and will involve the construction of 102 kilometers of non-electrified, single-track rail running through Digos, Davao City and Tagum in Region 11.
Chinese firm signs contract for hospital project in Ecuador -- China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE) announced in a statement on June 27 that the company had signed a business contract with Ecuador Public Project Engineering Management Committee on a hospital project in Chone, Ecuador. According to the announcement, the contracted construction period is 20 months and it's valued at 54.67 million U.S. dollars, or approximately 359.95 million yuan. Located in Chone city, Manabi province, the project will build a 120-bed comprehensive hospital with medical care, scientific research and prevention facilities.
Nairobi-Naivasha SGR project to start operation by mid-2019 -- The extended standard gauge railway (SGR) line that runs from Kenya Nairobi to Naivasha is expected to start operations around mid-2019, according to Paul Maringa, Kenya Principal Scretary for Transport and Infrastructure. Constructions for road base, tunnel and bridge for the Nairobi-Naivasha section by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) is currently 70 percent complete, said Paul Maringa.
Chinese firm to construct road linking Kenya to South Sudan -- Kenya's North Rift region is set for transformation as a Chinese firms has won the tender to construct the first tarmac road that extends to South Sudan. China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation has been contracted to undertake the construction of the 60km road in a region referred to as Kenya's bread-basket. The Kitale-Namanjalala-'Keriget-Chepchoina road, that is intended to link Kenya with South Sudan, is expected to be launched by Deputy President William Ruto next month.
Milestone reached on Sino-Lao railway -- Builders began to lay the first steel truss complex on June 22 on Yuanjiang Railway Bridge-which has the tallest bridge pier in the world and the longest span between two piers-on the Chinese section of the 925.5-kilometer China-Laos railway, a major project in the Belt and Road Initiative. The enormous metal framework, 13.5 meters long, 16 meters wide and 16 meters high with a weight of roughly 400 metric tons, is the first of 56 such structural components to stand on the 832.2-meter Yuanjiang Railway Bridge, said engineer Xie Lu from the China Railway No 4 Engineering Group Co Ltd (CREC4)-the company building it. The dual-track bridge, spanning the V-shaped Honghe River Canyon, is one of 134 bridges being built on the 508.5-km Chinese section of the railway, which links Yuxi city in Southwest China's Yunnan province and the Lao capital Vientiane and will be fully operational in December 2021.
China Three Gorges Group acquires hydropower project in Chile -- Chilean media reported that China Three Gorges Corporation recently acquired Chilean company Atiaia Energía from Brazil's Cornélio Brennand Group via its subsidiary China International Water & Electric Corp. Atiaia Energía is building the Rucalhue hydropower project in Biobío Province of Chile, which has a designed installed capacity of 90 MW. To complete the Rucalhue project, an additional 240 million dollars needs to be invested. The project has obtained environmental permit and construction permit for transmission lines, which allow it to start construction immediately.
Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe railway's Nuremberg warehouse put into use -- Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe railway's Nuremberg warehouse held cargo departure ceremony on June 20 in Nuremberg. The cargo used the new overseas warehouse in Nuremberg and would be transported through multimodal transport systems such as China-Europe trains, ocean shipping and air freight to facilitate the "going out" of companies from northeast China's Jilin province. Commissioned in August of 2015, the Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe railway entered into normal operation in 2017.
Chinese firm signs contract for M6 MALL project in Kuching, Malaysia -- China 22MCC Group Co., Ltd. recently signed a contract for the M6 MALL project in Kuching, Malaysia. The M6 MALL project is a commercial and residential complex project, close to Kuching International Airport and Kuching Bus Terminal. Covering a total area of approximately 60,000 square meters, the project includes construction of a commercial center, parking lots, apartments and dormitory buildings. The project is expected to bring new impetus to the development of the local economy and promote stability of the local community.
Railway project to link Tibet, Nepal -- China and Nepal will build a cross-border railway connecting the Tibet autonomous region with Kathmandu, as agreed on in more than 10 cooperative documents signed on June 21. The new line will connect the Gyirong trading port in the city of Xigaze, Tibet, with the Nepali capital Kathmandu. A railway was put in operation in 2014 linking Xigaze with the autonomous region's capital Lhasa, which is also at one end of the lengthy Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
