BANGKOK, July 3 (Xinhua) -- China Railway Group Limited is the latest firm which has entered competition for Thailand's high-speed rail project, a government official said on Monday.
China Railway Group Limited is the 15th firm which has bought a bidding document for the State Railways of Thailand's project to build the 220-kilometer-long high-speed rail project designed to link three major airports, namely Don Mueang airport on the northern suburbs of Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi airport on the eastern outskirts of Bangkok and U-tapao airport in Rayong province, according to the SRT official.
It is viewed as part of the so-called Eastern Economic Corridor project on which the Thai government is seeking international investment.
The State Railway of Thailand's document on terms and conditions of the bidding is available for sales until July 9.
The 14 other firms which earlier entered competition for the rail project, estimated to cost more than seven billion U.S. dollars, include BTS Group Holding Co., Charoen Pokphand Holding Co., Italian Thai Development Co., Unique Engineering and Construction Co., Energy Complex Co., Itochu Corp., Sinohydro Corp., Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Co., Bangkok Expressway and Metro Co., Fujita Corp., China Railway Construction Corp., CH Karnchang Co., Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Co. and TPI Polene Co.
All the competing bids are scheduled to be tendered on Nov. 12 and the winning bidder to be publicly declared the next day.
