BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Inner Mongolia Huineng Coal Chemical Co., Ltd, recnetly has started construction of the second phase of its coal-to-gas(CTG) project in Erdos, Inner Mongolia.
Locasted in Yijinhuoluo, Ordos, is the second CTG demonstration project approved by in China. Three years ago, the first-phase project with an annual output of 400 million cubic meters of natural gas realized full-load operation and became one of the earliest coal gas demonstration projects in China.
After full production of the second phase project, more than 6 million tons of coal can be converted annually to produce 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas, said Liu Jianqiang, general manager of Huineng Coal Chemical Co., Ltd.
Famous for its coal production, the Ordos city from north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has built the country's largest modern coal chemical industrial cluster. However, how to develop clean utilization resources on a large scale will also challenge the future development of the city. The development of clean coal utilization technology has brought new opportunities for industrial transformation in Ordos.
At present, Ordos City has built more than 15 million tonnes of various coal chemical production capacity, and the annual coal conversion volume has reached 65 million tons. It has become China's largest modern coal chemical industry base, and its industrial chain is also focusing on fine chemicals, synthetic fibers, and synthetic resins. The extension has boosted the upgrading of the local industry and optimized its structure. (Edited by Ma Xin, maxin11@xinhua.org)
