Chinese company starts testing Mecca Light Rail for upcoming Hajj pilgrimage -- China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) started on June 21 the testing of the Mecca Light Rail in preparation for Hajj pilgrimage in August when millions of pilgrims will head to the holiest city in Islam. CRCC, which was in charge of the construction of Mecca Light Rail, gained again the operation contract worth 350 million Saudi Arabian rials (93 million U.S. dollars) in April as approved by the Saudi government. In 2009, CRCC won the bidding of the project, which extends for 18.25 km and includes nine stations. The company finished its construction in 16 months.
PowerChina signs EPC contract for largest PV power station in Southeast Asia -- Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina)’s Asia Pacific headquarters recently signed an EPC contract for a 420 MWde Dau Tieng Photovoltaic solar power plant in Tay Ninh, Vietnam with Xuan Cau Co., Ltd. from Vietnam and B.GRIMM Power PCL. from Thailand. The project is located in Tay Ninh, a province in the highland plateau in southwestern Vietnam, with a total installed capacity of 420 MW. It was jointly developed by Xuan Cau and Thai investor B.GRIMM Power, and PowerChina assisted the owners in financing. The project adopts Chinese capital, Chinese general contractor, Chinese standards and Chinese equipment. It is the largest photovoltaic power station in Vietnam and the entire Southeast Asia region. It is also the largest PV project signed by Chinese companies under the Belt and Road Initiative.
BUCG Maldives airport reconstruction project starts runway asphalt paving -- The Maldives Velana International Airport reconstruction and expansion project has recently started asphalt paving. Adopted digital construction control technology, the new runway runs 3,400 meters, according to Chinese construction company Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), noting that the entire upper layer construction is scheduled to be completed in early July.
Uzbekistan mine project built by Chinese enterprise starts operation -- Located in the northern part of Surkhandarya Province in Uzbekistan, adjacent to the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the Shargun mine’s annual exploitation of hard coal reached 160,000 metric tons (tonnes) per year, and the upgraded production capacity will increase to 900,000 tonnes per year. The project uses the Chinese government’s preferential export buyer’s credit, which is contracted by the Export-Import Bank of China. The total cost of the EPC contract is 94.5 million U.S. dollars and the construction period is 38 months.
Construction work on China-funded stadium in Cambodia in full swing -- The construction on a China-aided new national stadium in Cambodia has gone full steam ahead of the project completion plan set by the end of 2020. Eight tower cranes have been installed, with two of them can be 115 meters tall. Two giant crawler cranes are capable of lifting up to 180 tons of steel structures. Those monster machines are the biggest-ever cranes used in Cambodia. Guo Liangliang, senior engineer at the China State Construction Engineering Corporation(CSCEC), which is the contractor of the main stadium, said the construction of the stadium, the main venue for tournaments when Cambodia hosts the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2023, is progressing rapidly.
Jiangxi Zhongmei to undertake highway project in Madagascar's capital -- Jiangxi Zhongmei Engineering Group Ltd. recently won the bid to assist construction of the highway project in suburban Antananarivo, capital of Madagascar, with a contract value of 190 million yuan, according to the Agency for International Economic Cooperation (AIECO) of China’s Ministry of Commerce. The project connects three towns in the northwest of Antananarivo, with a total length of approximately 19.25km. It consists of road construction of a main line and five connecting lines for and related safety facilities, bus stops and harbor-style parking zones. Construction on the project is expected to start before October 15, 2018, and end in 36 months.
This project is the largest foreign aid project that the company has won so far. It also marks the company’s entry into the Madagascar market.
Chinese engineering firm completes main construction work of Laos' longest bridge -- China Railway No. 2 Engineering Group (CREC-2) has completed the main construction work of the longest bridge along the China-Laos railway which is also the longest-ever bridge in Laos. Zeng Fanbing, the superintendent from the CREC-2 in charge of the construction of the sixth section of the China-Laos railway project, told Xinhua on June 15 that his team finished the concrete casting of the last bridge pier of the Nam Khone super major bridge on June 14, thus completing the main construction work of the longest bridge along the railway project. The Nam Khone super major bridge, located in the northern suburb of Lao capital Vientiane, has a total length of 7.5 km. A total of 230 bridge piers have now been erected. The highest pier reaches 10.5 meters.
CMEC signs EPC contract for 35MW geothermal power project in Kenya -- China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) and Sosian Menengai Geothermal Power Ltd. (SMGP) from Kenya recently signed an EPC contract for the Menengai 35MW geothermal power project. The project is CMEC’s first geothermal power project and it will help the corporation enter the new energy market of geothermal power.
China Energy signs several agreements with Lithuanian and Ukrainian companies -- North China Power Engineering Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group (NCPE), a subsidiary of the company, has entered into a MOU with ACHEMOS GRUPE in Lithuania. China Energy Engineering Group Investment Co., Ltd., another subsidiary of the company, has entered into the MOU with Orion Securities in Lithuania. NCPE has entered into an agreement for the 200MW photovoltaic power project in Ukraine with METROPOLIYA MC LTD, with total project investment of 253 million U.S. dollars.
