InfoQuest, (March 18, 2020) -- Viboon Rerksirathai, director-general of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed that EGAT has made preparations for power generation, power supply personnel and equipment, to prevent and reduce risks of COVID-19 and ensure household power supply. Strict measures have been worked out: monitoring sites of power plants, prohibiting irrelevant personnel from entering power plants and site of power system control center building; all staffs entering the building should take temperature, and wear masks in work; cleaning buildings and all equipment every day with disinfectants and alcohol.

EGAT has also formulated countermeasures against COVID-19 outbreak. If the government announces to upgrade the epidemic to Grade-III, EGAT will upgrade its existing measures and take actions immediately, including: preparing back-up power system control center, closing down power system control center, and cleaning and sterilizing the building once cases of infection are found; replenishing work team with executives and staffs of EGAT who have worked in the power system control center and with rich experience and expertise in power system operation and control; relevant staff members should work from home via EGAT's internal network IT system.

In terms of the operation and maintenance of power generation equipment in power plants, EGAT has selected staff members equipped with multiple skills in terms of power, machinery and equipment use, and capable of continuous working in controlled areas for a long time. In case of employee shortage, the working time will be lengthened from eight hours to 12 hours. Special equipment, parts and maintenance brochures will be prepared to ensure timely maintenance in case of emergency. EGAT has also worked out a list of shops and companies responsible of sending tools and equipment necessary for equipment operation and maintenance in case of emergency.

The people should feel assured about EGAT's countermeasures against the epidemic. EGAT will ensure continuous power generation and supply, and the stability of the state's power system.
