The Thuringia-based sensor manufacturer UTS Umweltsensortechnik GmbH in Geschwenda, Germany, has received a commission from a Chinese diesel engine manufacturer, according to information from Germany’s Ministry of Economics.
The company entered into a multi-year cooperation agreement on temperature sensors with the diesel engine manufacturer Yuchai (Yulin) during a recent visit to China from Thuringia’s State Economics Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee and business representatives from the eastern German state. Yuchai is one of the world’s largest engine manufacturers for ships and commercial vehicles.
Under the deal, UTS will develop sensors for exhaust management systems for diesel motors, mass produce them in Thuringia and ship them to China. New regulations on lower emission values will enter into effect in China from 2020.
Thuringia ranks among the most important locations for sensor technology internationally, according to an assessment from Tiefensee. Significant economic and research competencies have been built up in this field in recent years here, he said.
