KUNMING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Yunnan Province, one of China’s major producers of natural rubber, will launch a natural rubber industry service platform for countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).
The platform, which aims to increase the competitiveness of the rubber industry in the GMS, plans to set up trading sub-platforms in Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar in the cooperation with its partners in the three countries. GMS members thus will share the natural rubber raw materials trading and supply chain, and product trading models as well, said Wang Zuo, general manager of Yunnan International Rubber Trading Center.
Official data showed Yunnan’s natural rubber output edged up 2.1 percent year on year to 448,600 tons in 2016. The province’s planting areas reached 591,700 hectares by the end of 2016.
Established in 1992, the GMS Economic Cooperation is an economic cooperation program that aims to enhance economic ties in the subregion. It comprises Cambodia, China (particularly Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
