BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) - China's integrated circuit (IC) industry reported a sales value of 115.29 billion yuan in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 20.8 percent year on year, according to the data released by the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA).
Of the 115.29 billion yuan, sales value of the IC design, manufacturing, and packaging and testing sectors accounted for 39.45 billion yuan, 35.59 billion yuan, and 40.25 billion yuan respectively, up 22 percent, 26.2 percent, and 19.6 percent year on year.
According to statistics released by General Administration of Customs, China imported 92.36 billion chips of ICs in the first three months with total import value at 70.05 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 18.1 percent and 38.7 percent year on year respectively.
Meanwhile, China exported 47.66 billion IC chips to other countries during the period with export value at 18.07 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 11.4 percent and 34 percent year on year respectively. China's IC trade deficit was 51.98 billion U.S. dollars in Q1.
In the first quarter of 2018, China’s IC import growth rate was higher than that of the whole year of 2017. Data from General Administration of Customs showed that China imported 377 billion IC chips in 2017, an increase of 10.1 percent on year, with import value of 260.14 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 14.6 percent on year.
In 2017, China exported 204.35 billion IC chips, up 13.1 percent year on year, with export value of 66.88 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 9.8 percent year on year.
CSIA showed that sales of China's IC industry reached 541.13 billion yuan in 2017, up 24.8 percent year on year. Among them, IC manufacturing sector grew the fastest, with a year-on-year increase of 28.5 percent in 2017, and the design sectorand the packaging and testing sectors continued to maintain rapid growth with 26.1 percent and 20.8 percent respectively.
