BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The track laying ceremony for the railway project from Lagos to Ibadan in Nigeria undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) was held on May 8.
The railway project starts from Nigeria’s largest harbour city Lagos and finishes in Ibadan, an industrial hub and the capital city of Nigeria's southwest Oyo State.
With a total length of 156.08 kilometers, the railway track fully adopts Chinese standards and its maximum speed is designed to be 150 kilometers per hour. The contract is valued at 1.581 billion U.S. dollars and the contract term is three years.
The project started operation in March 2017. At the ceremony, Nigeria’s Minister of Transport Rotimi Ameachi praised the Chinese firm for its hardworking and efficiency and he expected the project to be completed in February 2019.
