BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Qingdao city of east China’s Shandong province added five new sea routes in the first quarter, giving full play to its location advantages to further facilitate maritime Silk Road transportation development.
The port city achieved 128 million tonnes of port throughput, 4.54 million TEUs of container throughput, while transported 5.7362 million air passengers in the first three months. It saw its sea-rail transportation volume rise 60 percent on year to 254,000 TEUs in the first quarter, remaining its top spot in the country’s coastal ports.
In the meantime, Qingdao has established friendly port relations with the Cartagena Port of Spain, with a total of 22 friendly ports. It also advances the construction of a container terminal for its joint venture project in Vado Ligure, Italy, and a 300,000-tonne crude oil terminal in Kyaukpyu harbour, Myanmar.
