BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The second stage of the third thermal power station project of a power company owned by Colombia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy has recently been connected with the power grid. It is another coal-fired power station turnkey general contracting project undertaken by China United Engineering Co. Ltd.
So far, the combined installed capacity of the first and the second stages of the thermal power station has accounted for one third of the nation's total.
If the average monthly household electricity consumption was 150 kWh, the first and the second stages of the power station would meet at least 1.5 million people's power needs and provide better protection for the local residents and industrial power supply, said Li Yanfei, general manager of the overseas engineering arm of China United Engineering.
The 0.7-square-kilometer power station is build with the Chinese design, Chinese technology and Chinese equipment. The circulating fluidized bed desulfurization and denitrification technology is also used in Colombia for the first time, effectively improving the absorption, solidification and reuse of toxic gas.
China now has become Colombia's second largest trading partner and its fourth largest source of investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
Bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached 11.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2017. At present, more than 70 Chinese-funded companies have invested in Colombia. (Edited by Jiang Zhengxu, Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
