BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recently held a meeting in Beijing to jointly promote implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The UNDP is the first international organization to sign the Belt and Road cooperation agreement with the Chinese government. The two sides will jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative and implement the United Nations 2030 sustainable development agenda.
China welcomes and values international organizations’ participation in the international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, said Ning Jizhe, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
China is willing to join hands with the UNDP to implement the bilateral cooperation documents, promote synergies between the Belt and Road Initiative and the UN 2030 sustainable development agenda, and make contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind, Ning added.
The UNDP has attached great importance to building the Belt and Road Initiative with China and already built more than 50 national offices, as well as Bureau for Africa and Bureau for Policy and other departments, to jointly promote the Initiative.
The UNDP will increase human, material and financial resources and join hands with China to build the Belt and Road Initiative and make it an accelerator for the implementation of the UN 2030 sustainable development agenda, according to Xu Haoliang, assistant secretary-general, assistant administrator and director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific at the UNDP.
