ZHENGZHOU, Apr.24 (Xinhua) -- Cargolux Airlines International has half of its cargo growth come from cooperation with Zhengzhou Airport, according to Paul Helminger, Chairman of the Board of Cargolux at the recent 2018 “The Silk Road in the Air” Economice & Trade Cooperation Summit between China and Luxembourg (Zhengzhou-Luxembourg).
It is noted that Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment Co., Ltd. bought 35 percent share in Cargolux in November of 2013.
Henan Province has been actively promoting the Belt and Road construction, leveraging on the advantages of connecting logistics hubs at home and abroad to construct “air silk road”, acting on its“dual hub” strategy that uses Zhengzhou Airport as the Asia Pacific hub and Luxembourg Airport as the hub of Europe and America.
Today, Cargolux’s global ranking climbed to 5th in 2017 from 9th in 2014. Cargolux’s accumulated international freight volume, international freight routes, flight number and international navigation points all take the top spot in Zhengzhou Airport’s count.
“We are very confident about the future. The 'two-hub' strategy has enabled us to expand our business in China. If we do not cooperate with Zhengzhou Airport, we would not have developed so fast,” according to Paul Helminger.
Driven by the "dual hub" strategy, Zhengzhou Airport has become one of the largest and busiest freight airports in China. Cargolux's worldwide distribution network has attracted many high value-added product export companies that require sophisticated aviation logistics to Henan. More and more countries have seen their “gold-digging” opportunities in Henan.
The summit attracted government officials and compay representatives from Russia, Italy, Lithuania, and other countries.
“This time we brought several Italian companies. The Marches would love to become strategic partner to Henan which is an important node along the 'Air Silk Road'” said Cristiano Varotti, director with the Italian Marches office in China.
The next step would be the open of Zhengzhou-Luxembourg passenger route, according to Zhang Mingchao, chairman of Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment.
In the meantime, the construction of Henan-Luxembourg service complex would speed up which integrates foreign affairs services, business finance, cross-border trade, professional services, and cultural tourism, Zhang said. (Contributed by Li Wenzhe, Liu Jinhui, edited by Niu Huizhe)
