JAKARTA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's completely built up car export grew 19 percent to 231,000 units last year amid good prospect of the industry, Indonesian industry Minister Airlangga Hartartoa said here on Thursday.
Export of spare parts of the vehicles rose significantly to 81 million pieces in 2017 from 6.2 million in 2016, Airlangga said.
Airlangga expected the car production would increase to 1.5 million units in the next two years from the country's average outputs of 1.21 million every year.
The hike would be supported by rapid flows of investment in the industry amid better government regulations and appliance of sophisticated technology, he added.
"Effective rules, rising fresh investment and adoption of the newest technology are expected to create better business environment," Airlangga said.
To support the industry, the government would ease import tariffs of raw materials, said Airlangga.
Indonesia is one of the fast growing markets in the world for auto production as the country is home to over 258 million populations with emerging middle class.
