BEIJING, Apr. 3 (Xinhua) -- China imported 234.6 tonnes of gin from January to February, 2018, an increase of 51.3 percent year on year, according to a monthly report jointly released by Xinhua Silk Road and China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce (CFNA).
The value of China's gin imports amounted to 895,000 U.S. dollars during the period, an increase of 66 percent on year, at average unit price of 3,814.7 U.S. dollars per tonne, up 9.7 percent year on year.
In February alone, China imported 69.7 tonnes of gin, down 25.4 percent on year, with value standing at 263,000 U.S. dollars, down 21.6 percent year on year.
From January to February, 2018, among all the countries and regions that export gin to China, the United Kingdom (UK) ranked the first by 580,000 U.S. dollars in value of gin, up 63.3 percent year on year followed by Japan with a value of 83,000 U.S. dollars up from zero during the same period a year ago. Spain ranked the third with a value of 77,000 U.S. dollars.
In February, 2018, UK ranked first with a value of 146,000 U.S. dollars, followed by Spain with a value of 49,000 U.S. dollars and South Africa of 19,000 U.S. dollars. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
