BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) - Construction for a new terminal building for arrivals at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) of Guyana was kicked off on November 19, according to China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC).
The terminal for arrivals is part of CJIA’s expansion project, for which a contract valued at 138 million US dollars was struck between CHEC and the government of Guyana in late 2011. The project also includes building apron for the new terminal and extending runways.
The Chinese government has agreed to provide 130 million US dollars in preferential loans to support the project, with the rest of the funds needed to be raised by the government of Guyana, according to the website of China’s state-owned asset regulator - the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC).
Specialized in overseas business, CHEC is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Co., Ltd., a large state-owned transportation infrastructure group principally engaged in the design and construction of transportation infrastructure, dredging and heavy machinery manufacturing business.
