BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Leading Chinese mobile devices provider ZTE Corporation is expected to launch 5G smartphones in about one year, said Cheng Lixin, CEO of ZTE USA.
ZTE will launch its new device in the USA in late 2018 or early 2019, or may change the launch plan according to the layout of 5G network and the supply of necessary chips, according to Cheng.
In the further, ZTE may launch a 5G tablet PC or a home wireless hub, he added.
American Telephone & Telegraph (AT&T), the second-largest mobile operator in the USA, announced earlier this month a plan to launch 5G service in a dozen American cities in 2018, but provided no further details.
Qualcomm Technologies Inc. has started to pitch its upcoming new chips, which will make wireless connection faster. Without the support, launch of 5G devices by ZTE and most of other mobile phone makers will be an empty talk. (Edited by yang yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
