NEW DELHI, Jan. 19 (Xinhua)--China’s bike-sharing giant Ofo had launched its service in seven Indian cities, including New Delhi, Indore, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Pune, Coimbatore and Chennai, on a pilot basis, and it is expected that the company will deploy 3,000 bikes across India by late January.
Rajarshi Sahai, director of Public Policy & Communications of Ofo India, said that Ofo will work with India's e-payment company Paytm to enhance user experience.
Ofo is committed to working closely with local communities and institutions to extend bike sharing service to more Indian cities, thereby further optimizing local transportation systems, he said.
India has huge potential for the bike-sharing market, said Sahai, adding that with the worsening of urban problems like environmental pollution and traffic congestion, India needs more environmentally-friendly and also efficient public transport solutions.
"Ofo will take advantage of its technology and global operation experience to provide a high-standard means of sharing transportation for the Indian people", he added.
Ofo has reportedly provided sustainable transportation solutions to 200 million users in over 250 cities across 20 countries. (Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
