BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Locals in Africa are often seen taking pictures with a mobile phone and the phone which Africans are fond of was specially designed for them by a Chinese company, Transsion.

Recently, Transsion has achieved the largest smart phone sales in Africa surpassing other mobile phone brands like Samsung and Apple. In the first half of 2017 alone, 50 million units of the phone were sold. This is only an epitome of products made in China gaining popularity around the world.

Today, products made in China has shaken off the image of low price and inferior quality, and has been favoured by global consumers for its advanced technologies and outstanding quality.

-- Chinese brands gain recognition

With the rise of China's economy, "Made in China" has become a bright name-card.

Six out of the world top 10 smart phone sellers in the first quarter of 2017 were from China, according to data released by Internet Data Centre (IDC).

In Indonesia, China's Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi were among the top five smart phone sellers in the third quarter of 2017. In India, Xiaomi became the top seller in the third quarter of 2017 with shipment of 9.2 million units, taking up a market share of 23.5 percent.

Besides, Made in China has achieved satisfying results in shipbuilding, home appliances and other fields. As a major shipbuilding country, China leads the world in ship orders, shipbuilding volume and backlog share. China can build more than 95 percent of existing ship types in the world.

Chinese home appliance manufacturers have gone global vigorously with their international competitiveness enhanced steadily. Haier acquired Sanyo's white goods business, Fisher&Paykel and GE Appliances; Midea acquired Toshiba's white goods business, Italian central air-conditioner maker Clivet and one of the world top four robot manufacturers Kuka. From original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in the past to independent brands and to today’s overseas operation expansion, the role of Made in China is changing.

-- Innovation-based "Intelligent manufacturing"

Innovation, the new driving force for the transformation and upgrading of "Made in China", has boosted "Intelligent manufacturing in China".

On April 3, 2017, a subway train made by CRRC Corp., Ltd. for Boston attracted flocks of visitors. This is the first appearance of CRRC’s products before their future passengers. CRRC has been awarded orders containing 184 subway trains from Boston and Los Angeles by its outstanding quality and technologies.

"Made in China" in the new era, represented by rail transit, is gradually transforming from low-added-value processing manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing.

China has made significant progress in frontier research in fields including rail transit, transparent display, lithium battery and superconducting materials, and played a leading role in the world in these fields, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

"Driven by technologies, China's manufacturing industry is striving to seize the opportunity to explore a wider development road and bring about drastic changes," said Miao Wei, Minister of MIIT.

-- Strong manufacturing capability of China foreseeable

In recent years, with the goal of strengthening manufacturing capability, China has released a lot of policies and measures to create favourable environment for the rapid development of China's manufacturing industry.

Since the release of Made in China 2025, MIIT has defined 109 pilot and demonstrative intelligent manufacturing projects. The average production efficiency and operation cost of these projects have improved by more than 30 percent and reduced by more than 20 percent, respectively.

In November 2017, China’s State Council released the Notice on Creating "Made in China 2025" National Demonstration Zones, to make all-round arrangement for the establishment of "Made in China 2025" national demonstration zones. The release of successive policies has removed the obstacles for the development of China's manufacturing industry.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Science and Technology, China ranks the first in patent applications and grants, and the third in the ownership of effective patents for invention in the world, and China's innovation ranking rose to the 17th in 2017 from the 20th in 2012.

From a large manufacturing country to a manufacturing power, amid new-round technology revolution and industry transformation, “Made in China” is forging ahead under the drive of innovation.
