BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) – Beijing-located Zhongguancun Haidian Science Park, a renowned incubator of high-tech businesses in China, is serving as a source of innovation for driving the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, according to experts on the "Zhongguancun Forum 2017 – Zhongguancun @ Belt and Road" held on Thursday.
The forum, organized by Zhongguancun Belt and Road Industrial Promotion Association under the supervision of the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Haidian Science Park, attracted about 260 Chinese and foreign officials, experts, and enterprises to discuss about science and technology innovation’s role, taking the park’s high-tech firms as an example, in developing the Belt and Road.
Zhongguancun Haidian Science Park is the core part of Zhongguancun Science Park in Beijing’s Haidian District. Zhongguancun Science Park, a household name in China, is a high-tech center often referred to as “China’s silicon valley”.
Cai Jianing, vice head of the Department of International Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, delivers a speech on the forum Thursday.
Under the Belt and Road Initiative, Zhongguancun shall play a full role in creating Belt and Road cooperation-boosting platforms, said Cai Jianing, vice head of the Department of International Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology on the forum.
With local enterprises setting up cross-border platforms and establishing technology cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road, international production capacity cooperation and win-win development will eventually be realized, added Cai.
Apart from these, Zhongguancun shall carry forth talents cultivation plans and build internship platforms for foreign students so as to cultivate internationalized talents and support enterprises to take part in the Belt and Road construction, said Cai.
After over 20 years of development, Zhongguancun has made significant achievements in attracting foreign firms to come into China and facilitating Chinese companies to go global. So far, over 200 foreign World Top 500 enterprises have set up their branches in Zhongguancun and over 560 local firms in Zhongnguancun opened branches abroad, according to Cai.

According to Hou Yun, deputy director of the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park, in 2016, there were 1,552 export-oriented enterprises in Zhongguancun and 150 companies conducted outbound investment, of which outbound direct investment reached 24.83 billion yuan, fostering significantly infrastructure connectivity and quality production capacity cooperation as well and improving people’s livelihood and facilitating people-to-people bond.
Currently, Zhongguancun, a forerunner of innovation-driven development in China, is seizing the opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative to craft itself into a globally influential high-tech innovation center, said Hou.

After 30 years of reform-driven innovation and development, Beijing’s Haidian District, has become an important segment of global science and technology innovative and an innovative practitioner of the Belt and Road Initiative, said Li Changping, deputy director of Haidian district government and head of the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Haidian Science Park.
Haidian District will work on building an innovation community with shared future with countries along the Belt and Road and create a road of innovation along with the Belt and Road, noted Li, adding that Belt and Road Initiative-related markets were important destinations for Haidian-based high-tech enterprises to go to at present.
In next step, Haidian District will spare no effort in deepening cooperation with Belt and Road countries and bring more benefits of science and technology innovation to people along the Belt and Road, Li added. (Contributed by Duan Jing, duanjing@xinhua.org)
