GUANGZHOU, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) – Cultural exchange is the most effective channel to strengthen people-to-people bonds. Experts from a variety of countries exchanged their views on cultural exchanges existing in the promotion of China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on “The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” Forum on International Communication and Chinese (Guangdong) Companies Going Global, which was held on Nov. 29.
Belt and Road construction is not only about the economy, but also about the culture; it is not only related to economic development, but also relevant with new concepts of human evolution. To boost BRI comprehensively, China should focus on soft power construction, such as international communication, in a bid to spread the voices and concepts of China.
Wu Yihong, world affairs studies research fellow of Xinhua News Agency and former chief of the Middle East Bureau of Xinhua News Agency, noted that by grasping the strategic opportunity of expanding China’s publicity in the Middle East, Chinese media should make bold innovations in their concepts, contents and strategies, so as to further improve the image of China. To strengthen China’s ability to communicate with the Middle East, it is necessary to localize the model of communication and to further understand the global communication concept of “one world, diverse voices”.
To better tell Chinese stories related to BRI and to have the voices of China resonate with countries related to BRI, good books centering the topic are necessary. The books are supposed to be faithful records of relevant countries in building a beautiful tomorrow as well as bridges and ties linking people from different countries, said Wang Guike, chairman of Guangdong Provincial Publishing Group Co., Ltd.
In the view of Istvan Ujhelyi, president of Europe China One Belt One Road Cultural & Tourism Development Committee, tourism is the best way to engage masses from different countries on a personal level and the best tool to strengthen the values we share in common and find common ground eventually.
From the perspective of the progress of the world in history, cultural exchange and cooperation are the foundation of interaction among countries and exchanges among regions. Crafting distinctive, diverse, fine cultural products is crucial for cultural exchange and these products are expected to build bridges of spiritual connection among people from all countries.
