HARBIN, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- A civil airport opened Wednesday near the Wudalianchi in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
An A320 aircraft from the provincial capital Harbin landed at Wudalianchi Dedu Airport at 2:05 p.m., Beijing Time.
The airport, 11 kilometers from Wudalianchi resort, has a 2500-meter-long runway.
B737 and A320 aircraft can take off and land at the airport.
It is expected to handle 300,000 passengers and 1,500 tonnes of cargo and mail by 2020.
The Harbin-Wudalianchi route is operated on a daily basis. More routes are planned to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao and Yantai.
Covering a total area of 720 square km, Wudalianchi resort -- "five connective lakes" -- has 14 volcanoes and five major volcanic barrier lakes.
