Right time for China to promote renewable energy for industry, IEA official

November 09, 2017

Abstract : China is well set to push forward renewable energy for the industrial sector in an effort to meet clean technology needs and cut emissions across all sectors, said Paul Simons, deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA)

Beijing, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) – China is well set to push forward renewable energy for the industrial sector in an effort to meet clean technology needs and cut emissions across all sectors, said Paul Simons, deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), in a video message for the release of an IEA insight Paper Renewable Energy for Industry in Beijing on Thursday.

The global release of the paper was jointly held by China Economic Information Service (CEIS) under Xinhua News Agency and IEA, indicating China’s great role in promoting the use of clean energy in industries.

“We've found ways to reduce emission in terms of power and transport. But in terms of industrial sector, it's the most difficult nut to crack,” noted Paul Simons. The paper addresses one of the most difficult topics in all clean energy transition which is cutting emissions in industrial sector, he added.

According to Paul Simons, the study provides a pass way, a new look and a different type of technological future that can address the question of reducing emissions for industry, which will have implications both in the short term and the long run. (Edited by Liu Xiaoyun, liuxy08@xinhua.org)
