BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) --China’s leading new-energy carmaker BYD has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Alexandria, largest port city in Egypt, on building a straddle monorail, named SkyRail, according to the report of local media.
Alexandria and BYD signed the MoU on October 21, making Egypt the second country after the Philippines to have entered such an agreement with BYD. The monorail will be the first straddle monorail in Africa.
BYD’s SkyRail is China’s first straddle monorail with independent intellectual property rights. The SkyRail project in Alexandria has a planned total length of 128 kilometers. (Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
