BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Construction on the Chashma NPP Unit 4 by China Nuclear Engineering & Construction Corporation (CNEEC) was completed on September 8 Pakistan Time, marking the completion of the four units in Chashma NPP Phase I, according to CNEEC.
The completion of Chashma NPP Phase I will further alleviate the power shortage in Pakistan, promote its economic construction and improve the life of locals.
Chashma NPP Unit 1 has been operating soundly for 17 years; Unit 2 went into commercial operation in 2011, earning high praise from the governments of both countries; Unit 3 went into commercial operation 26 days ahead of schedule in late 2016; Unit 4 is operating stably with outstanding safety indicators and performance.
Additionally, Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Units 2 & 3, adopting China's independent Huarong I third-generation nuclear power technology, are progressing in full swing of construction, marking the entry of China-Pakistan nuclear power cooperation into a new stage.
He Yu, Chairman of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CEEC) said, exporting a nuclear power plant is equivalent to exporting 200 aircrafts. It is of great strategic significance and economic value.
Nuclear power has become another international icon of China after high-speed rail. Huarong I and CAP1400 are China's key exported nuclear power products. Huarong I has made its way into Pakistan, Argentina, the UK and other countries while CAP1400 is vying for the nuclear power market in South Africa, Turkey and other countries.
