BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi (Mi), opened its first “Mi Store” in Dubai on August 10. This is the first retail store authorized by Xiaomi in the Middle East and Africa region.
According to United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s media reports, Xiaomi’s internationalization pursuits have picked up pace as the company enters the Middle East market. At the same time, the company has also unveiled two new smartphones, namely Mi 6 and Mi Max 2
“While the company is best known for phones, we now offer laptops, drones, scooters, wearable devices and audio systems,” said Donovan Sung, Director of product management and marketing at Xiaomi Global.
It was reported that early this year, Xiaomi set the Middle East as an important part of its international business. Since February, Xiaomi has been in partnership with Etisalat, UAE’s integrated telecommunications operator, and Carrefour, a French multinational retailer.
“We have realized that Dubai is an important hub in the Middle East,” Sung added. At the same time, a few more offline outlets will be opened in Egypt and other Middle Eastern regions as a part of Xiaomi’s global strategy to set up 1,000 authorized stores overseas in the future.
