BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- A new tender for the opening of a mall at Piraeus Terminal will be launched by the end of the year or early 2018.
According to sources, at least two foreign groups have expressed interest and for this purpose GAIAOSE, Trainose's real estate properties development manager, has initiated the procedures so that the property acquires the necessary building permits and conditions of use.
The tender for the long-term concession will then be launched, according to GAIOSE sources.
The mall project had started many years ago but its completion was delayed due to problems with the use of land, the economic crisis, the unfavourable investment climate and the Metro works. Now, with COSCO's investments in the Piraeus region, and due to the investment interest, the procedure that will fill the gap of a large commercial center in the harbour has started.
According to sources, the construction of the shopping center at the OSE station in Piraeus is estimated to have a budget of 50 to 70 million euros and will involve the development of areas of approximately 40,000 square metres. According to the draft plans, it will include areas for commercial use, parking lots, leisure multi-media, central food market and others while the contractor is expected to take over the management of the project for 50 years.
