TEHRAN, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Iran signed a contract with the French-Italian ATR company to purchase 20 passenger planes, Iranian deputy Road and Urban Development minister was quoted as saying by semi-official Fars news agency on Monday.
"Iran's national flag carrier, the Iran Air, has signed a contract with the ATR company to buy 20 ATR 72-600 planes," Asqar Fakhriyeh Kashan said without further details.
In February, Fakhriyeh Kashan announced the talks with ATR officials, saying that after finalizing the deal with ATR, valued at 400 million US dollars, 20 passenger planes will be delivered to Iran in a scheduled manner.
In December 2016, Iran sealed a contract with Airbus to buy 100 aircraft worth over 18 billion dollars.
Also in December, Iran Air finalized another agreement with the US Boeing to purchase 80 commercial planes.
The agreement envisages the purchase of 50 twinjet narrow-body Boeing 737 planes and 30 long-range wide-body 777 aircraft with a total value of 16.6 billion dollars.
