SPIC becomes world’s largest solar power producer by capacity

February 22, 2017

Abstract : With a total installed solar power capacity of 7.12 GW at the end of 2016, State Power Investment Cooperation (SPIC), one of China’s top five power generators, became the world’s No.1 solar power producer by installed capacity.

BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- With a total installed solar power capacity of 7.12 GW at the end of 2016, State Power Investment Cooperation (SPIC), one of China’s top five power generators, became the world’s No.1 solar power producer by installed capacity.

Its photovoltaic (PV) installations are scattered across 27 Chinese provinces and autonomous regions, including northwestern China’s Qinghai province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northern China’s Hebei province, southeastern China’s Jiangsu province and more.

The company also invested in and built two solar stations for commercial use in Japan, namely the 4.8 MW PV project in Sanda Hyogo and the 2.4 MW PV project in Osaka Nanko, which respectively started operations on Feb. 9, 2016 and May 18, 2014.

The company has filled a global vacancy in hybrid hydro-solar and wind-solar projects with its 850 MWp Longyangxia hybrid hydro-solar project. The technology has proven effective in solving the volatility and intermittent quality of daily PV power output, thus improving the stability of grid operation. The company is also responsible for the 18 MW Jining PV power plant, Asia’s largest non-silicon thin-film PV power plant.

As a company dedicated to a greener future, renewable energy accounts for 42.9 percent of SPIC's total installed capacity, the highest rate among all Chinese power generators. Its total installed capacity of 117 GW include 71.46 GW of thermal power, 21.6 GW of hydropower, 4,475.2 MW of nuclear power, 7,118.4 MW of solar power and 11,982.2 MW of wind power.
