BEIJING, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese prominent smartphone producer Xiaomi announced recently that it has began manufacturing smartphones in Indonesia.
Xiaomi has joined hands with three local companies to set up a manufacturing plant in Batam, Indonesia.
Xiaomi's local manufacturing further showed the importance of the Indonesian market to Xiaomi, said Wang Xiang, senior vice president of Xiaomi, adding that Xiaomi could play a key role in promoting phone manufacturing in Indonesia.
Chinese ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng said Xiaomi’s local manufacturing represents a new stage in China-Indonesia cooperation and will bring higher-level mutual benefits to the two countries.
The Chinese smartphone vendor launched its first phone, Redmi 1S, in Indonesia in August 2014, which quickly gained Indonesian customers’ recognition due to affordable prices and high quality.
