BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese e-commerce titan Alibaba has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GS1 Australia to deepen online trade cooperation between China and Australia, Australian media reported recently.
Alibaba invited all brand owners to adopt GS1 standards for product information management and use the barcode as the only identification tool on e-commerce platforms.
The deal is conductive to introduce Australian brands which used GSI standards to Alibaba’s online shoppers, said Russell Stucki, chairman of GS1.
The demand for Australian products on Alibaba’s platform showed ascendant trend, as Chinese customer realized the importance of food safety, said Zhou Lan, managing director at Alibaba Group in Australia and New Zealand, adding that this deal will help Australian enterprises enter into the Chinese market through Alibaba’s platforms.
