BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Twitter Inc will remain committed to its business in the Chinese market, which is focused mainly on attracting advertisement from Chinese companies, the company told the Global Times on Tuesday, following the resignation of its top executive in charge of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The US technology giant confirmed the departure of Cathy Chen from the company.
Chen, who was hired eight months ago to run the US social media platform's operation in the Chinese market, announced her resignation on her own twitter account over the weekend.
"She is taking some time off to recharge, study about different cultures and then pursue more international business opportunities," Twitter said in a statement to the Global Times.
It said the company is still committed to helping Chinese advertisers "go global."
Twitter said its Hong Kong office will stay open to maintain a presence in the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan for business opportunities with Chinese companies.
Twitter is still blocked in the mainland, but an increasing number of Chinese companies, under a "go global" strategy, are going on the popular social media platform for advertising. Twitter said its advertising revenue from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan has grown more than 400 percent in the past two years. (Global Times)
