BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's major gold producer Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd (601899.SH; 02899.HK) said on Tuesday that a new progress has been made in the exploration of the Kamoa copper mine projectin the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Zijin Mining and Canada-based Ivanhoe Mines Limited each hold a 49.5-percent stake in Kamoa Holding Limited which indirectly holds a 95-percent stake in the Kamoa copper mine project.
At the end of 2015, the Kamoa exploration team has made a new high-grade and thick stratiform copper discovery in the Kakula exploration areafrom two exploration drill holes completed in the area. The aforesaid drilling and exploration results highlight the Kakula exploration area's promising prospect and potential for new high-grade, thick copper discoveries, according to a filing to the stock exchange.
The Kamoa copper mine is a very large, stratiform copper deposit within the central African copper belt. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
