August 08, 2017

Abstract : Vietnam's National Salary Council on Monday decided that regional minimum salary in 2018 will increase by 6.5 percent against 2017, or each employee will receive additional 180,000-230,000 Vietnamese dong (8-10.1 U.S. dollars) a month.

HANOI, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's National Salary Council on Monday decided that regional minimum salary in 2018 will increase by 6.5 percent against 2017, or each employee will receive additional 180,000-230,000 Vietnamese dong (8-10.1 U.S. dollars) a month.

From Jan. 1 next year, minimum monthly salary will rise to 3.98 Vietnamese dong (176.1 U.S. dollars), 3.53 million Vietnamese dong (156.2 U.S. dollars), 3.09 million Vietnamese dong (136.7 U.S. dollars) and 2.76 million Vietnamese dong (122.1 U.S. dollars) according to geographic zones in which enterprises are located.

Earlier, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the country's trade union, proposed that the regional minimum salary in 2018 should increase by 13 percent.

However, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) said the hike should rise 6.5 percent or 7 percent at most, arguing that Vietnam's economy in 2017 still faces difficulties, enterprises' production and business have not improved.

"Increasing salary at high rates will pressurize enterprises, affecting production and Vietnamese goods' competitiveness," said VCCI. Enditem
