BRATISLAVA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Amazon will open its first reverse logistics center in Sered, western Slovakia, and create more than 1,000 jobs over the next three years, company representatives confirmed Monday.
The center is set to be opened in the third quarter of this year and will focus on European customers. Currently, Amazon has an office in Bratisava, employing more some 850 people.
"The fact that we are building our logistics centre in Slovakia shows how much we believe in investing in this market," stressed Amazon Vice-president for European Operations Roy Perticucci.
Amazon's expansion in Slovakia was welcomed by the government.
"Besides the obvious benefits for the economy and employment, I consider it to be important that the project will work without state investment aid," said Slovak Economy Minister Peter Ziga.
The U.S.-based Amazon, an electronic commerce company, is the world's largest internet-based retailer by total sales and market capitalization. Enditem
