The flights, which connect via China Southern's hub at Guangzhou Baiyun international airport, have brought return fares to/from Auckland and Amsterdam / London to as low as 999 New Zealand Dollars (roughly 719.5851 U.S. dollar).
China Southern have also brought lower fares from New Zealand to Asia and North America.
The benefits of travelling via Guangzhou include a chance for passengers to relax, rest and eat, and also potentially build a stop into their itineraries to visit the city.
Some of the flights will be operated by the airline's state of the art Boeing 787 aircraft, which feature larger cabin windows and a lower cabin altitude than most planes. That results in passengers arriving feeling less tired and 'jet lagged' than has previously been the case with very long flights.
China Southern is not the only Chinese airline to have been the European headlines recently. As we reported last week, China Airlines has delayed the launch of its services to London.
At an annual media event, the airline announced that the link would now not start until the fourth quarter of 2017 at the earliest.
