Oslo airport plans 23,300 square meter expansion

February 09, 2017

Abstract : Danish consultant Cowi is to design a 23,300 square meter expansion to Oslo Airport to accommodate the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the 276-tonne Airbus A380.

Danish consultant Cowi is to design a 23,300 square meter expansion to Oslo Airport to accommodate the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the 276-tonne Airbus A380.

The work is an extension of a project to build a second terminal, which is due to be completed later this year, and will allow the airport to handle more flights outside the Schengen Area of the European Union.

Avinor, Norway’s state-owned airline, has said the project “should have much plainer areas with significantly lower building costs and more standardized solutions” than the Terminal 2 scheme.

Cowi and its principal subcontractors, Aas Jacobsen and Per Rasmussen, worked together on the earlier scheme.

Frode Fjeldstad, contract manager for Cowi, said: “The cooperation between Aas Jacobsen, Per Rasmussen and us worked really well, and that is one of the reasons why we want to continue. We are an integrated team, so the client does not have to deal with three companies.”
