VIENTIANE, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Ministry of Finance and the World Bank (WB) on Tuesday signed a 25-million-U.S. dollar agreement to improve road maintenance and connectivity in the Southeast Asian country.
The Lao Road Sector II Project is part of the country's national program to build climate resilient roads and infrastructure.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in the Lao capital Vientiane, Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport Bounchanh Sinthavong said: "With this new agreement, people in rural areas will benefit from more reliable roads throughout the year."
The Road Sector II Project will support road maintenance work in six poor provinces that are highly vulnerable to floods, landslides and other natural disasters.
It will provide year-round access to basic services, schools and markets for around 1.6 million people. Enditem
