BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- China Road and Bridge Corporation inked a 205 million U.S dollars contract with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works to rebuild a main road in Afghanistan.
Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Zhang Zhixin, Charge d’Affairs A.I. of the Chinese embassy to Afghanistan, attended the signing ceremony for this project on Jan.8.
The road, which is 178 kilometers long, will go through 37 villages and link Dare-e-Sof district in Samangan province with Yakawlang district in Bamyan province, Afghan Minister of Public Works Mahmuod Baligh said during the ceremony, adding that this project is the second section of national north-south corridor in Afghanistan.
Mahmoud Baligh also pointed out that this project is conductive to further accelerate Afghan economic growth and at the same time it is the important step for the country to connect Afghan provinces in a bid to provide convenience for local residents.
Besides, this project will help the government to exploit mineral resources along the road, the minister said.
Lu Shan, general manager of China Road and Bridge Co, noted that the company will make efforts to complete this project and further implement the country’s Belt and Road Initiative in a bid to bring benefits to Afghan people.
The project is one of significant actions for Afghan government to improve the country’s transportation condition.
