BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China’s dairy company Feihe International Inc. announced it would invest 225 million Canadian dollars (about 132 million U.S. dollars) to build a new milk powder production plant in Kingston of Canada, according to local media in Canada.
Feihe International signed an agreement with city government of Kingston in early December on building a milk powder production plant with an investment about 1.14 billion yuan.
The plant is expected to bring 200 job opportunities. Local media said it is “the largest economic development project in history.”
It’s reported that the plant covers an area of 300,000 square feet and is the only goat milk powder production base in North America. The plant’s 20 percent products will be distributed to North America and the rest is mainly for Asian markets.
Construction of the plant will start in April of 2017 and is planned to complete in 2019. Four representatives of Feihe International have set up permanent office in Kingston and other employees will be recruited locally.
Feihe Dairy, founded in 1962 headquartered in Beijing, now has seven milk power production plants around the world, four in Heilongjiang province, and the other three are in Jilin, Shaanxi and the United States. Enditem (By Yang Qi, Zhang Xiaolong, kateqiyang@xinhua.org)
