BEIJING, Jan. 6(Xinhua) -- Eletrobrás Termonuclear SA – Eletronuclear, which operates Brazil’s nuclear power plants, announced recently that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC).
According to the MOU, the two companies may co-operate in restarting the construction of Brazil’s third plant, the Angra 3.
At the same time,Eletronuclear is also in talks with three other companies for the construction of this project, Eletronuclear said.
Currently, Brazilhas two nuclear power plants, namely Angra 1 and Angra 2, with a combined capacity of 1,990 megawatts (MW). Their output supplies roughly 3 percent of Brazil’s electricity demand.
The Angra 3 project, with a generation capacity of 1,350 MW, is due for completion by the end of 2018.
