China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC) and Kazakhstan mining giant - ENRC signed in early December a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on constructing a planned pit-mouth coal-fired power plant in Tete province of Mozambique.
The two sides reached consensus over the project during an inspection tour by a delegation led by Zheng Chengjun, vice president of CNEEC to ENRC’s coal mine base in Tete province.
ENRC is the largest mining company in Kazakhstan, with the mining concession for coal reserves of one billion tonnes in Tete province of Mozambique.
The company is planning to build a thermal power plant with total installed generating capacity of 1,800MW to solve the power shortages in Mozambique and neighboring countries. CNEEC will participate in construction of the whole project.
