Cote d'Ivoire-Mali road project built by China’s COVEC opens to traffic

December 12, 2016

Abstract : The Cote d'Ivoire-Mali border road constructed by China Overseas Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (COVEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of China Railway International Group Co., Ltd. (CRIG), was opened to traffic on Dec. 8.

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Cote d'Ivoire-Mali border road constructed by China Overseas Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (COVEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of China Railway International Group Co., Ltd. (CRIG), was opened to traffic on Dec. 8.

Addressing the opening ceremony held in Tengrela, Cote d'Ivoire on the day, Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara awarded Hu Tao, general manager of COVEC Cote d'Ivoire company and Fen Deming, the representative of COVEC headquarters the National Medal of Construction.

The road stretching from Bolona of Cote d'Ivoire to Mali’s border via Tengrela is 42.5 kilometers long. The construction started in August 2015 and was finished one and a half months ahead of schedule on June 6, 2016.

The road is the extension of the Boundiali-Tengerela road which is also constructed by COVEC. The two roads together are 130 kilometers long, therefore are known as the Road Project 130.

The completion of the project is of great significance for both the local government and people of Cote d'Ivoire as well as the COVEC. By improving the traffic conditions along the road to the greatest degree, the project is expected to help boost the local economic development.

The project is also part of the country's biggest infrastructure project -- the comprehensive development project of San Pedro. Upon its completion, major cities in west Cote d'Ivoire become interconnected. (By Yang Qi, Rong Zhongxia, Liu Xiaoyun, kateqiyang@xinhua.org)
