BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Spreadtrum Communications, Inc., a Chinese mobile chipset designer owned by Tsinghua Unigroup, has been the No.1 chipset provider in India. With its innovative and customized products, Spreadtrum has performed as a boon for the entire communication industry in India and is helping Indian people moving into 4G era.

Since its entry in India in 2010, Spreadtrum always been committed to offering innovative products at affordable prices to Indian people.

During the era when Indian market was only feature phone focused, Spreadtrum brought in chipsets based on ARM9 architecture whereas its competition was still using ARM7 architecture based chipsets. Integrated with the high performance CPU, it ensured that videos can be played at a higher bit rate and x264 compression thereby enabling people to enjoy videos through their memory cards. This helped Spreadtrum to become the leader in the feature phone segment within the 3 years of its entry in the Indian market.

In 2013, Spreadtrum made smart phone affordable for most Indian people including those in second- and third-tier cities by introducing SC6820 chipset. Based on this chipset, most Indian mobile phone brands were able to launch their first successful smart phone models with price as low as Rs. 4000, which was half of the smart phone price before SC6820 was introduced.

In 2015, Spreadtrum launched a 3G quad core smartphone chipset, SC7731. Within one year of its launch, Spreadtrum became the leading player in the 3G smartphone segment in India.

In 2016, Spreadtrum collaborated with various Indian operators to bring smartphones with 4G and VoLTE across all their offerings and not only in the high-end or mid segment. This has helped the market to shift to 4G in less than a year.

According to statistics, Spreadtrum has become the largest chipset provider in India with over 55 percent market share. It has established cooperation with influential Indian mobile phone brands, such as Micromax, Intex, Lava, LYF, XOLO, and InFocus.

“Spreadtrum has contributed immensely to the overall development of the mobile handset eco-system in India. ICA and Spreadtrum have been working closely to establish design skill sets with deep focus on product innovation. We are confident that Spreadtrum with its competencies and product development strategies will be a boon for the Indian industry”, said Pankaj Mohindroo, chairman of Fast Track Task Force (FTTF) and national president of Indian Cellular Association (ICA).

To ensure high product quality for its users in the Indian subcontinent, Spreadtrum India team with its deep technical expertise has been working on developing various innovative methods and processes. They have many teams working in different domains and ensure that all the teams work in synergy to help their partners launch the latest products with best quality and minimum time to market.

Although software eco-system in India stays good, the hardware eco-system still need time to become mature. Therefore, Spreadtrum setup a capable hardware team and a hardware lab to help their partners in testing and debugging their products. Also they keep on providing regular trainings to their partners on the hardware front to help them grow their teams quickly.

Currently Spreadtrum is working to bring the latest 4G technologies like VoWifi, CA, eMBMS across their all smart phone product portfolios. Spreadtrum believes their upcoming 4G feature in collaboration with LTE operators would be a game changer. It will redefine the market dynamics and will make 4G available to all users at affordable prices. Enditem (Edited by Bai Chun, Li Xiaohui, lixh@xinhua.org)
